My original artworks vary in materials, subject matter, style, technique, and, occasionally, function (bells, fountains, gates, pendants, masks, etc).
Many are made from Copper, a principle medium of mine, which I discovered the joy of working with in 1996, continuing today. A giant pine stump, carved into bowls, pitches, troughs, bores, etc is my main work bench. Mix that with mallets, hammers, pliers, shears, forms, torches and pure imagination, it leads to many wonderful creations!
Also represented are re-purposed 30" galvanized steel strap hoops taken from retired wine barrels then hand bent into shapes of every nature, occassionally painted. "Hoop Art" as I refer to them, represent the art of configuring a solid circle into any given shape.
My collection of Hoop figures, creatures, and shapes rendered from these steel strap hoops has become extensive. They are not easy to bend, and into perfect proportion. No two are ever alike.
The steel straps are not taken apart and are between 1 to 2.5 inches wide and 30 - 33" in diameter. They are made slightly flared (one side smaller/larger in diameter than the other) to fit the curvature of a wine barrel, or cask. Hence, the finished shapes have a ribbon-like effect in both appearance and shadow. They are a wonderful addition to any indoor or outdoor space!
